Don’t Just Strip Powers, Dismiss and Prosecute Guilty Officials
- Shiv Sena (UBT) City Chief Chetan Pawar Demands Action from PCMC Commissioner
Pimpri : Alleging that the fatal Moshi garbage depot incident was the result of administrative negligence rather than an accident, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) Pimpri-Chinchwad city chief Chetan Pawar has demanded stringent action against those responsible.
In a memorandum addressed to Commissioner of pcmc, Pawar sought a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe, criminal cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and immediate suspension of the officials, engineers, supervisors and contractors found guilty.
Pawar alleged that repeated warnings regarding the hazardous condition of the Moshi garbage depot were ignored by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), ultimately leading to the loss of an innocent worker’s life. He demanded a judicial inquiry or an SIT probe headed by a senior IAS officer, with the findings made public at the earliest.
The memorandum also demands financial assistance for the deceased worker’s family, permanent employment for one eligible family member, free treatment for the injured and their complete rehabilitation.
Highlighting long-term safety concerns, Pawar called for independent structural, geotechnical, safety and fire audits of the depot. He also sought strict compliance with National Green Tribunal (NGT), Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines and Solid Waste Management Rules. Installation of CCTV cameras, drone surveillance, gas sensors, emergency warning systems and a dedicated control room has also been proposed.
Pawar further demanded environmental monitoring of air, water, soil and groundwater around the landfill, regular health camps for nearby residents and a scientific, time-bound waste management plan. He warned that Shiv Sena (UBT) would launch a public agitation if the government failed to initiate prompt action against those responsible.
Key Demands
Shiv Sena (UBT) has demanded an SIT probe into the Moshi landfill tragedy, registration of culpable homicide charges against responsible officials and contractors, suspension of guilty officers, compensation for the victim’s family, permanent employment for a dependent and free treatment for the
injured.
