Ajit Pawar, Laxman Jagtap Portraits Covered at PCMC Headquarters

Red cloth covers oil paintings as election Model Code of Conduct delays formal unveiling

PIMPRI : Oil portraits of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and late BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap have been installed at the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) headquarters. However, the portraits are currently covered with red cloth due to the Model Code of Conduct in force for the Pune Division Graduate and Teachers’ Constituency elections.

The ruling BJP had passed a resolution in the PCMC General Body meeting to install the portraits at the civic headquarters. Following the approval, the civic body’s civil engineering department completed the installation.

Ajit Pawar’s portrait has been placed on the ground floor along the passage leading to the Property Tax Collection Department, while Jagtap’s portrait has been installed beside a staircase in the municipal building.

Both portraits have been painted by artist Sunil Shegaonkar. Although the installation has been completed in accordance with the approved resolution, the formal unveiling ceremony has been postponed due to the election code of conduct. The portraits have been covered with red cloth until the restrictions are lifted.

According to information available, the formal unveiling will take place after the Model Code of Conduct ends. The portraits honour two prominent political figures associated with Maharashtra politics and the development of Pimpri-Chinchwad. The unveiling ceremony, however, will have to wait until the election-related restrictions are withdrawn.
