MNS Warns PCMC Over Footpath Benches at Nigdi; Threatens Removal Using JCB

Pimpri: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Pimpri-Chinchwad city president Sachin Tukaram Chikhale has demanded the immediate removal of benches installed on the footpath between Durganagar Chowk and Nigdi Bus Stop under the PCMC’s ‘Urban Street’ project, alleging that they are causing inconvenience and creating safety concerns for citizens.

In a letter addressed to the Additional Municipal Commissioner, Chikhale stated that the benches on the left-side footpath are obstructing pedestrians, especially senior citizens, women, and children. He also alleged that anti-social activities and objectionable behaviour by youths are taking place near the benches during night hours.

According to the complaint, liquor bottles, cigarette packets, and condom wrappers are frequently found around the area, raising serious concerns about women’s safety and public hygiene.

MNS has demanded:

  • Immediate removal of all benches on the stretch
  • Installation of adequate streetlights
  • Increased night police patrolling in coordination with the police commissionerate

Chikhale warned that if the civic administration fails to take action within seven days, MNS workers will remove the benches themselves using a JCB machine in the interest of public safety.
