Officers Must Work to Take Social Welfare Department to Greater Heights : Minister Sanjay Shirsat

Pune : Maharashtra Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat called upon officials to work with dedication and strengthen the Social Welfare Department by ensuring justice reaches the last person in society.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a two-day state-level workshop for officers of the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department organised by the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI) in Lonavala.

Shirsat said the department plays a major role in shaping students’ futures and stressed the importance of hostels in transforming students’ lives. He also suggested using artificial intelligence in hostel admission processes and encouraged officials to implement innovative initiatives that could become models for the state.

The minister emphasised timely utilisation of budget allocations and urged officers to work towards the vision of a “Developed Maharashtra 2027.”

Principal Secretary Dr. Harshdeep Kamble said the department would focus on five major areas — education, infrastructure, entrepreneurship, social security, and technology — to bring positive social change.

Commissioner Deepa Mudhol-Munde said the department plans to launch new schemes and policies for students, senior citizens, women, transgender persons, and sugarcane workers. She added that state-level sports competitions for officers, employees, and students were organised for the first time this year and received an encouraging response.
