Mayor Cup Competitions Provide Platform for Young Athletes: Chandrakant Patil

Pimpri : Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil said that competitions like the “Mayor Cup” are playing an important role in providing a major platform for young athletes across the state. He stated that such events help nurture discipline, leadership, and team spirit among youth.

Patil was speaking during his visit to the “Mayor Cup 2026-27” state-level sports competition organised by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation at Gavjatra Ground in Bhosari. He also felicitated Shiv Chhatrapati Award winners and interacted with players.

The minister expressed confidence that India would successfully host the Olympic Games by 2036, highlighting the country’s rapid progress in the sports sector and the development of modern sports infrastructure and training facilities nationwide.

During the event, Shiv Chhatrapati awardees Vijay Yadav (boxing), Meenakshi Shinde (cycling), para-swimmer Vaishnavi Jagtap, and kabaddi player Viraj Landge were honoured for their achievements.

MLA Mahesh Landge said more large-scale sports competitions would be organised in Bhosari in the future to strengthen sports culture, while Mayor Ravi Landge stated that PCMC is committed to providing quality sports platforms for the city’s youth.
