Three Youths Drown While Taking Selfie at Maval Dam; Another Dies in Pavana River

Pimpri : Three young men from Bhosari drowned while allegedly attempting to take a selfie at Jadhavwadi Dam in Maval taluka of Pune district on Friday. In a separate incident on the same day, another youth drowned in the Pavana River, taking the death toll to four and leaving the region shocked.

The deceased in the Jadhavwadi Dam incident were identified as Ajay Garude, Aniket Pawar, and Santosh Yedke. All three were residents of Bhosari in Pimpri-Chinchwad and were employed at a private company in Bhosari MIDC. Originally from Parbhani district, they had gone to Maval with friends to spend their weekly day off.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place around 3 pm when the group reached the dam area. Due to the intense heat, they entered the water to cool off. While in the water, the trio allegedly attempted to take a selfie with their arms around each other’s shoulders.

During the attempt, one of them reportedly slipped into a deep pit. As the others tried to rescue him, they too were pulled in by the strong undercurrent. All three drowned before their friends could help.

On hearing the commotion, local residents and rescue teams rushed to the spot. Teams from Maval wildlife rescuers and the Shivdurg organisation launched a search operation and later recovered the bodies.

In another incident reported the same day, Manoj Bharat Gautam drowned while swimming in the Pavana River.

Police are further investigating both incidents.
