‘Auto Stands Should Become Model Service Centres’: Dr Baba Kamble
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Auto Stand Inaugurated by Kamble in Bhosari
Pimpri : Dr Baba Kamble on Tuesday called for transforming auto-rickshaw stands across the city into “model social service centres,” urging drivers to go beyond transport services and serve citizens with courtesy.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Rickshaw Stand’ at Yashwantnagar in Bhosari. The facility has been set up under the aegis of the Maharashtra Rickshaw Panchayat.
Kamble said Pimpri-Chinchwad, known for its working-class population, relies heavily on auto-rickshaws for daily commute, and drivers should aim to provide disciplined and citizen-friendly services.
Highlighting the organisation’s journey, he said the union, established in 2006, has completed nearly two decades of work for drivers’ welfare. He credited sustained efforts for key policy changes, including curbs on unrestricted auto permits, which had earlier affected drivers’ livelihoods.
He added that the organisation has expanded its presence across multiple districts in Maharashtra, reflecting its growing support base among auto drivers.
Several office-bearers, including Ganesh Lokhande, Nadeem Shaikh and Ankush Kale, were present at the event, along with a large number of drivers.
