Sandeep Waghere Seeks Police Protection Over Alleged Threat to Life
PCMC corporator files complaint after raising concerns over YCM Hospital machinery tender
Pimpri-Chinchwad : NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) corporator Sandeep Waghere has alleged that a conspiracy is being hatched to kill him after he raised concerns over alleged corruption in a machinery procurement tender at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital, run by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
Waghere has submitted a complaint to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate against contractor seeking legal action and police protection, citing a threat to his life.
Allegations Over Hospital Machinery Tender
According to Waghere’s complaint, PCMC had floated an e-tender for purchasing machinery for YCM Hospital. He suspected that the tender quoted prices substantially higher than the actual market rates, prompting him to submit a written complaint to the municipal commissioner. He stated that he subsequently approached the Maharashtra Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers with supporting documents. The matter reportedly came into the spotlight after details of the allegations appeared in the media. Waghere alleged that he faced attempts to pressure him after raising the issue of suspected corruption in the civic body.
Seeks FIR and Police Security
Waghere also claimed that he had previously complained about threats but had not received the action he expected from the authorities. He expressed concern that failure to act against such threats could embolden criminal elements. He has urged the police to investigate the alleged threats and conspiracy thoroughly, initiate appropriate criminal proceedings in accordance with the law, and provide him with immediate police protection. The next steps by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, including whether a formal case will be registered and whether protection will be granted, remain to be seen.
Claims of Threats and Criminal Conspiracy
In his complaint, Waghere alleged that Pushpraj described by him as the owner of the company concerned visited his office after he lodged the complaint and asked him not to pursue the matter further. He further claimed that he had received information about discussions among individuals allegedly linked to criminal elements in the Kalewadi area to target him. Waghere has accused Pushpraj and his son of allegedly conspiring with local criminals and arranging a contract to kill him. These allegations have not been independently established, and the response of the persons named in the complaint was not available at the time of publication.
