Nirbhay Kanya Programme Held at Pratibha College
- Workshop focuses on self-defence, confidence building and women’s protection laws
Pune : A one-day karate demonstration and awareness programme on women’s rights and protection was organised at Pratibha College of Education under the ‘Nirbhay Kanya’ initiative. The programme was jointly conducted by the Student Development Board of Savitribai Phule Pune University and the college.
The initiative aimed to create awareness among girl students about self-defence, build confidence, and support overall personality development. The programme focused on educating students about personal safety and highlighting the importance of self-defence in everyday life.
The event was organised under the guidance of Pratibha Shah, Chairperson of Kamala Education Society, and Dr Deepak Shah, Secretary. Principal Dr Pournima Kadam presided over the programme. Karate trainers Satish Rajhans, Sarika Rajhans and Shivani Rajhans, along with advocate Dr Shubha Pille and Student Development Officer Adv Prof Geeta Kamble, were present on the occasion.
During the session, the trainers emphasised the importance of self-defence for women and explained how being alert and prepared can help in handling difficult situations. They demonstrated various practical techniques and safety measures, helping students understand how to respond effectively in threatening situations. The trainers also highlighted that self-defence helps in building confidence, situational awareness and decision-making ability.
Students actively participated in the session and practised basic self-defence techniques. The interactive workshop enabled them to understand how to respond in dangerous situations and the importance of both physical and mental preparedness.
Dr Shubha Pille delivered a detailed session on women’s rights and protection, addressing queries raised by students. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Adv Prof Geeta Kamble.
Overall, the initiative proved to be informative and empowering, enhancing awareness and confidence among students regarding their personal safety.
