Complaint alleges derogatory remarks against senior citizen from Scheduled Caste

Pune : A case has been registered against former Pune corporator Vasant Krishnaji More under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 at the Shivajinagar Police Station in Pune. The case was filed following a complaint by Vishwanath Tukaram Lahade (72).

According to police, the complaint is related to statements allegedly made by More during a press conference held at the Pune Municipal Corporation on February 25.

The complainant alleged that More made objectionable and insulting remarks about him during the press interaction, despite being aware that Lahade belongs to a Scheduled Caste. Lahade claimed the remarks were made intentionally and with the motive to insult him.

As per the complaint, More allegedly said that Lahade “had consumed so much alcohol that he could not even speak properly and had gone down into a drain to clean gutters.” The complainant further alleged that the video of this statement was circulated on social media and went viral.

Lahade stated that the viral video caused serious damage to his social reputation and created mental stress for him and his family. He also told police that his family members are currently living under fear and tension due to the incident.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, Shivajinagar Police have registered an offence against More under the Atrocity Act. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
