Pimpri : With the objective of making Pimpri-Chinchwad a greener city, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has undertaken an ambitious initiative of planting native species of trees at every ten-meter interval along the dividers of major roads as well as on footpaths. This initiative, conceptualized by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, includes comprehensive planning for the protection of these trees. In this regard, Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil reviewed the various measures being implemented, including regular maintenance, upkeep, and geo-fencing of the trees.

The Additional Commissioner inspected the tree plantation carried out on the dividers and footpaths of major roads within the limits of Zone C, F, B, and D ward offices. He reviewed whether the implementation of the initiative of planting native species of trees was being carried out properly. Present during the inspection were Chief Garden Superintendent Mahesh Gargote, Garden Superintendent Yogesh Valunj, Assistant Garden Superintendent Rajendra Vasave, Garden Inspector Dada Gord, Assistant Garden Inspector Gyanoba Kamble, Garden Assistant Pradeep Gajarmal, along with other officers and staff of the Garden Department.

Along with these instructions, he also directed that road islands should be cleaned and made green.

The Additional Commissioner also gathered information from the Garden Department officers regarding the quality of plantation, the number of trees, and geo-fencing. On this occasion, he directed that penal action should be taken against contractors who repeatedly ignore instructions and show negligence in work. He also emphasized that each zonal office should regularly review this work. He expressed confidence that the PCMC’s native tree plantation drive would increase the city’s green cover, help control pollution, and contribute to building an eco-friendly city.
