No Valid Bike Taxi Licence for Rapido in Pune, RTO Warns Public Against Using App
Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO seeks police action against company; five vehicles fined ₹56,000
Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Regional Transport Office (RTO), Pimpri-Chinchwad, has clarified that Rapido does not hold a valid aggregator licence to operate bike taxi services in Pune district. The RTO has appealed to citizens not to use the Rapido bike taxi app and warned two-wheeler owners against registering their private vehicles on the platform.
According to the RTO, Rapido has been found operating bike taxi services in Pune district without obtaining the required aggregator licence. A meeting was held on October 15, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Pune District Collector, who is also the chairman of the Regional Transport Authority. Representatives of the authority, aggregator companies, auto-rickshaw unions and taxi associations attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Rapido was directed to immediately discontinue its unauthorised bike taxi services in Pune district until it obtained a valid licence for operating e-bike taxis. The authorities also instructed that police cases be registered against the company if it continued to operate without the necessary authorisation.
However, as the Rapido bike taxi app continued to remain operational, the Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO, on October 26, 2026, wrote to the Bhosari MIDC Police Station requesting the registration of a case against the company. The RTO has also written to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner seeking action to shut down the Rapido app.
Meanwhile, the RTO’s enforcement squad has taken punitive action against five vehicles found operating as bike taxis through the Rapido app. A total fine of ₹56,000 has been imposed on these vehicles.
Private Two-Wheeler Owners Also Warned
The RTO has urged citizens not to use the Rapido bike taxi app and advised owners not to register their privately classified two-wheelers on the platform.
The office has warned that if such vehicles are found being used for unauthorised commercial operations during inspections, action will be taken against the owners under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and applicable rules.
The Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Pimpri-Chinchwad, has appealed to citizens to comply with the instructions to avoid legal action.
