Pimpri : Eight Class 11 and 12 science students from a coaching academy in Alandi, Pune district, drowned in the sea at Diveagar in Shrivardhan taluka while on a tourist trip, in a tragic incident.
Around 30 to 40 students of Winners Academy had reportedly travelled to Diveagar for a trip. Preliminary information suggests that eight students drowned after entering the sea and misjudging the water conditions.
A rescue operation was immediately launched following the incident. The bodies of all eight students have been recovered.
The deceased have been identified as Yash Kiran Wankhede, Soham Tukaram Bhandwalkar, Tanmay Dattatray Vahile, Kaustubh Sandeep Daund, Kaivalya Vasanakar, Rajveer Vahile, Pranav Bansode and Sumit Ahire.
Police, revenue and health department officials and personnel reached the spot and initiated the necessary procedures. Further legal formalities regarding the bodies are underway.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Alandi area, with residents and the students’ families expressing grief over the tragic loss of eight young lives.
