Woman Loses ₹8.14 Lakh in Instagram Marriage Scam in Kalewadi

Pimpri-Chinchwad : A 34-year-old woman from Kalewadi was allegedly duped of ₹8.14 lakh by a person she met through Instagram, who reportedly promised to marry her.

The incident took place between August 27 and September 24, 2026, according to the complaint filed at Kalewadi Police Station.

Police said the accused, identified as Sahil Verma, allegedly contacted the woman through an Instagram account and gradually developed a relationship with her. He allegedly gained her trust by promising marriage and claiming to have substantial financial resources.

The accused allegedly used emotional conversations and gave various reasons to seek money from the woman. Believing his claims, she transferred a total of ₹8.14 lakh through online transactions.

After realising that she had allegedly been cheated, the woman approached the police.

Kalewadi police have registered a case against the accused and the Instagram account holder. Further investigation is underway.
