All 121 Pune ZP PHCs to Be Upgraded as Model PHCs
– Modern infrastructure, digital systems and quality healthcare to strengthen rural health services
Pune : The Pune Zilla Parishad is implementing the ‘Pune Model PHC Project’ to transform all 121 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the district into modern, citizen-centric healthcare facilities.
Of the 121 PHCs, 55 were converted into Model PHCs last year, while the remaining centres will be developed this year in accordance with the latest Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS).
The project focuses on more than infrastructure upgrades. Model PHCs will have modular operation theatres, modular delivery rooms, modern furniture, spacious waiting areas and improved patient facilities, creating a safer and more comfortable environment.
A Hospital Information Management System (HIMS) is also being introduced to digitally manage patient information, healthcare services and institutional processes, improving efficiency and service delivery.
Focus on quality and digital healthcare
The Zilla Parishad is also promoting national-level quality standards. Three PHCs have received NABH accreditation, while 15 have received NQAS certification, strengthening standards related to patient safety, cleanliness, service processes and quality management.
Telemedicine facilities have been started at three PHCs to enable patients in remote areas to consult specialist doctors without having to travel long distances.
The project is being funded through a combination of District Planning Committee (DPC), National Health Mission (NHM) and Zilla Parishad cess funds. CSR support is also being utilised for medical equipment and solar electrification of PHCs and sub-centres.
The initiative aims to provide accessible, reliable and quality primary healthcare closer to rural residents, particularly those living in hilly, remote and geographically challenging areas, while making Pune’s rural healthcare system more modern, digital and patient-centric.
