PCMC plans decentralised waste network to ease Moshi depot burden
- Civic body proposes 10 sites for waste processing, odour-free transfer stations and recycling facilities across city
Pimpri : With the Moshi waste depot facing increasing pressure, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has proposed 10 sites across the city for decentralised solid waste management facilities.
The civic body plans to use the sites, depending on their size and technical suitability, for waste segregation and recycling, odour-free transfer stations, Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), and facilities to produce biogas and biofuel from organic waste. Processing plastic waste into useful products is also part of the proposed plan.
The proposed locations include Sector 22 in Prabhag 13 near a water tank, reserved plots in Prabhags 17 and 18 in Chinchwad, Dattanagar near Ram Mandir, Dighi Gairan, Chovisawadi, two locations in Punawale, Gawlimatha and a site within the Khadki Cantonment Board limits.
PCMC officials said the sites are undergoing technical and feasibility assessments, including examination of land availability, transportation arrangements and environmental considerations. The final locations will be decided after obtaining the required permissions and approvals.
“Decentralisation is being emphasised to strengthen solid waste management in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Along with reducing the burden on the Moshi depot, we are planning to make waste collection, transportation, segregation and processing more efficient.” The final sites would be selected with the consent of the mayor, elected representatives, office-bearers and councillors.

The civic body plans to deploy advanced technology for odour-free transfer stations, MRFs, biogas and biofuel facilities, as well as plastic waste processing.
