AAP Demands Uniform Maharashtra Policy on DJs and Noise Pollution
Pune : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Youth State President Raviraj Kale has demanded that the Maharashtra government formulate a clear and uniform statewide policy on the use of DJs and the severe noise pollution caused by them, instead of adopting different rules for different cities.
Kale questioned why authorities were taking action against DJs in Mumbai and imposing restrictions on DJs and laser shows in Nagpur, while Pune appeared to be following a different approach. He urged the state government to decide clearly whether DJs should be permitted and, if so, under what conditions, and ensure that the same rules are implemented across Maharashtra.
He said the issue was directly linked to public health, as excessive noise generated by DJs can cause severe discomfort and affect citizens, particularly senior citizens, children and patients. Kale also expressed support for activist Vidyanand Bapat, who has taken a stand against noise pollution in Pune.
According to Kale, a large number of Pune residents recently participated in a march from Balgandharva Chowk to the Pune Municipal Corporation headquarters, highlighting growing public concern over noise pollution.
He questioned the need for prolonged public consultations when the Chief Minister could take a policy decision on the issue quickly. “Dialogue is necessary, but the government must also demonstrate political will and decision-making ability,” he said.
Kale further pointed out that the DJ issue has acquired a political dimension because workers associated with various political parties are involved in public Ganesh festival organisations. He therefore called for an all-party meeting to formulate a statewide policy and ensure its uniform implementation.
He also condemned the reported attack on Vidyanand Bapat, saying that raising concerns over noise pollution should not invite ridicule or violence in a city known for its tradition of social reform and intellectual movements.
