Loudspeaker Use Restricted for Legislative Council Election Campaigning in Pune

PUNE : Pune District Magistrate Jitendra Dudi has imposed restrictions on the use of loudspeakers for election campaigning in view of the Maharashtra Legislative Council Graduates’ and Teachers’ Constituencies Biennial Election 2026.

The restrictions have been imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

As per the order, individuals, organisations and political party workers will not be permitted to use loudspeakers without prior permission from the police authorities. Loudspeakers will also be prohibited before 6 am and after 10 pm, whether used on moving vehicles or at any other location.

For election campaigning, loudspeakers may be used only after the vehicle or campaign activity is stationed at a designated location. The use of loudspeakers while a vehicle is moving on the road has been prohibited.

Political parties, candidates and other concerned persons will also have to inform the District Magistrate, the respective Returning Officer and other concerned authorities about the locations for which permission has been obtained to use loudspeakers.

Prior Permission Required for Hoardings and Posters

The district administration has also restricted the display of hoardings, banners, posters and wall advertisements on government, semi-government and public properties without prior permission from the competent authority.

The restriction will remain in force until the completion of the election process.

Restrictions on Convoys

Political parties, candidates and their representatives have also been prohibited from using a convoy of more than 10 motor vehicles in the district during the election campaign.

The restrictions have been imposed under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023, with the objective of regulating election-related activities and maintaining public order during the poll process.

The order will remain in force across Pune district until October 31, 2026.

Violations of the order will attract penal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the district administration said.
