Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO Fines Passenger Vehicle Operators Rs. 2.15 Lakh for Carrying Goods

Pimpri Chinchwad : The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pimpri Chinchwad has launched a crackdown on passenger autorickshaws and two-wheelers being used to transport goods through online apps, issuing 18 challans and imposing fines totalling Rs 2.15 lakh.

The RTO has also issued notices to Porter, Ola, Uber and Rapido, seeking explanations for the alleged use of passenger vehicles for goods transportation in violation of permit conditions.

Officials said some drivers were using passenger autorickshaws and two-wheelers to ferry goods booked through online platforms, bypassing restrictions linked to vehicle categories and permits. During a special inspection drive, action was taken against violators under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Under Sections 66 and 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, transport vehicles must be used in accordance with their permits and the conditions specified therein. Using a vehicle for purposes not authorised under its permit can invite action against the owner or driver.

The RTO warned that strict action would be taken against drivers violating permit conditions and urged them to use their vehicles only for authorised purposes.

The drive was conducted under the guidance of Regional Transport Officer Sandesh Chavan, Deputy Regional Transport Officer Rahul Jadhav and Ashwini Swami.
