Former Mayor Yogesh Behl Challenges Legality of PCMC Special General Body Meeting
- Legal notice issued to Mayor, Municipal Commissioner and City Secretary over September 2 meeting
Pimpri : Former Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Mayor Yogesh Behl has challenged the legality of the Special General Body Meeting scheduled for September 2, 2026, alleging that the meeting has been convened in violation of the applicable procedure.
Behl has served a legal notice on the Mayor, PCMC Municipal Commissioner and City Secretary through Adv. Asim Sarode and Associates LLP, demanding that the alleged irregularities be addressed.
According to Behl, the General Body meeting held on August 20 was adjourned until September 17 without discussion on all the items listed on its agenda. He has contended that an adjourned meeting constitutes a legal continuation of the original meeting and that the pending agenda items must therefore be taken up at the adjourned meeting scheduled for September 17.
Behl has objected to the inclusion of 18 selected items out of the 31 pending subjects in the Special General Body Meeting scheduled for September 2.
He has argued that the same subjects cannot simultaneously remain within the scope of two separate meetings. The legal notice therefore demands that the overlapping subjects be immediately removed from the September 2 special meeting and discussed only at the adjourned meeting on September 17.
Behl has warned that if the disputed items are not removed, he will approach the competent court for appropriate legal relief.
He has also called upon the Municipal Commissioner and City Secretary, as key administrative authorities, to ensure that the alleged illegal proceedings are prevented and that the prescribed procedure is followed.
