Drunk Driver Crashes Into Vehicle, Argues With Police on Aundh-Hinjawadi BRT Road

Pimpri : A drunk driving incident followed by an alleged altercation with police was reported on the Aundh-Hinjawadi BRT Road on Sunday evening (August 30). The incident came to light after a video of the episode went viral on social media, following which Wakad Police initiated legal action against the driver.
The driver has been identified as Shashank Prashant Khanwalkar (40), a resident of Aundh.
According to police, Khanwalkar was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol when his car collided with another vehicle. He subsequently lost control of the car, which crashed into a road divider.
Police personnel reached the spot and reportedly attempted to counsel the driver. However, Khanwalkar allegedly argued with the officers and used abusive language. In the video circulated on social media, he can reportedly be heard saying, “Call your Commissioner, I am right here,” while allegedly behaving aggressively towards the police.
Citizens who recorded the incident also claimed that the driver attempted to move towards the police officers during the confrontation. Following the circulation of the video, police registered a case against Khanwalkar and issued him a legal notice. A few hours later, Khanwalkar released a video apologising to the police and stated that his remarks had been made unintentionally.
