AAP Youth Wing Opposes Fresh Tree Census Tender by PCMC
– Questions ₹6.76 crore expenditure on previous survey; demands cancellation of new GIS-GPS mapping tender
Pimpri : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Youth Wing has taken an aggressive stand against the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) decision to float a fresh tender for GIS-GPS-based mapping of trees across the city.
AAP Youth Wing leader Raviraj Kale has questioned the need for issuing a new tender when the civic body has already spent crores of rupees on an earlier tree census. He demanded that the municipal administration clarify why a fresh tender is required if the previous survey was already undertaken.
According to Kale, the PCMC had earlier awarded the tree census work to private agency Terracon Ecotech Pvt. Ltd., which was assigned to conduct the survey through satellite-based technology. He claimed that the civic body spent ₹6.76 crore on the project.
“If the earlier work was not completed, why was the entire payment released to the agency?” Kale questioned, demanding transparency regarding the expenditure and execution of the project.
The AAP Youth Wing has demanded that the new tender be cancelled immediately and that the earlier contractor be directed to complete the pending work. If the work has not been completed or is found to be defective, the amount paid should be recovered from the contractor and the agency should be blacklisted, Kale said.
The party has also demanded strict action against municipal officials found responsible for negligence or alleged collusion in the matter. It has called for financial recovery from the officials concerned and demanded that criminal cases be registered against the contractor and responsible officers if wrongdoing is established.
Kale warned that if the PCMC fails to take appropriate action, the AAP Youth Wing will launch an intensified agitation against the civic administration.
The controversy has raised questions over the utilisation of public funds and the implementation of the city’s tree census, with AAP demanding that the PCMC make the details of the previous project and payments transparent.
