50% Fare Concession for Senior Citizens on PMPML Buses

• Daily Pass Reduced from ₹70 to ₹35; Move Expected to Make Public Transport More Affordable and Accessible

PIMPRI : Senior citizens aged 60 years and above residing within the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporation limits will now receive a 50% concession on PMPML bus travel. The decision was approved at a meeting of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) Board of Directors and has been implemented from August 24, 2026.

As per the revised fare structure, the daily pass for senior citizens has been reduced from ₹70 to ₹35. The move is expected to provide significant financial relief to elderly passengers, particularly those who depend on buses for regular commuting.

The concession will make PMPML services more affordable for senior citizens and is also expected to encourage greater use of public transport. With affordable fares, the initiative could help reduce dependence on private vehicles and promote safer and more accessible mobility for the elderly.

Relief Amid Rising Travel Costs

The reduction in the daily pass price is likely to benefit senior citizens who frequently travel for medical appointments, social activities, essential work and other routine needs. Cutting the pass price by half will reduce their regular commuting expenses and provide relief amid rising living costs.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen the use of public transportation among senior citizens in both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

‘Safe, Accessible and Affordable Transport for Senior Citizens’

Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Govind Barne welcomed the decision and said senior citizens had made significant contributions to the development and social fabric of the city.

“Senior citizens have contributed immensely to the development of our city and society. The primary objective of this decision is to ensure that financial constraints do not become an obstacle to their daily travel. Providing safe, accessible and affordable public transport through PMPML is an important step in this direction,” Barne said.

He added that reducing the daily pass from ₹70 to ₹35 would provide substantial financial relief to senior citizens.

“Going forward, efforts will continue to strengthen public transport by keeping the needs and convenience of citizens at the centre of policy decisions,” Barne said.

The revised concession is expected to make bus travel more economical for senior citizens while encouraging them to choose public transport for their daily mobility needs.
