Traffic Chaos at Nigdi Bus Stop; Demand to Shift Stop Near Bhakti-Shakti Garden
Metro work, encroachments and autos worsen congestion on Mumbai–Pune Highway
Pimpri : Severe traffic congestion has been reported near the Nigdi Bus Stop along the Mumbai–Pune Highway, raising safety concerns for thousands of daily commuters.
The problem has intensified due to the ongoing Pimpri–Nigdi Metro Rail Project, which has narrowed the road in the area. With a large number of passengers using the bus stop every day, the stretch frequently witnesses heavy crowding and traffic disruptions.
According to local residents, heavy vehicles such as trucks and travel buses further worsen the situation. In addition, some auto-rickshaw drivers reportedly park their vehicles near the bus stop and pick up passengers from the road, adding to the congestion. Encroachments by roadside vendors and handcart operators around the bus stop have also reduced road space, creating a major obstacle for traffic movement.
Due to the persistent congestion, commuters often have to wait dangerously close to moving traffic while boarding buses, increasing the risk of accidents. School students, senior citizens and women are among the most affected.
Citizens have therefore urged authorities, including the CEO of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, to take immediate action and shift the bus stop to the area opposite Bhakti‑Shakti Garden.
Residents have also demanded the removal of encroachments near the bus stop, restrictions on auto-rickshaws and private travel buses from picking up passengers at the spot, and a ban on heavy vehicles on the stretch.
Locals believe that relocating the bus stop via the Bhakti-Shakti route would significantly reduce traffic congestion and ensure safer and more convenient travel for commuters.
