Lonikand landlord recognises tenant after threat reports surface; Thane Police take custody of accused

PUNE : A landlord in Lonikand helped police identify a suspect in a death threat case involving Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Jitendra Awhad after recognising his tenant from media reports about the incident.

Lonikand police detained Vishal Madhavrao Bicchewad, 39, a resident of Barava Mile in Lonikand, for allegedly threatening the MLA over phone calls and messages.

According to Senior Police Inspector Sunita Rokade, Bicchewad allegedly threatened Awhad on the night of October 19, claiming he was at the MLA’s doorstep and threatening to shoot him. He also allegedly used obscene language while abusing the legislator.

A case was registered at Vartak Nagar police station in Thane in connection with the alleged threats.

After reports about the incident appeared in the media, the landlord of a house in Lonikand allegedly recognised Bicchewad, who was staying there as a tenant, as the suspected person. The landlord apprehended him and handed him over to Lonikand police.

Thane police subsequently reached Lonikand, took custody of Bicchewad and served him with a legal notice in connection with the case.

Bicchewad reportedly works as a security supervisor. Further legal proceedings in the case are being handled by Thane police.

The allegations against Bicchewad are subject to investigation.
