• RTO Warns Autorickshaw Drivers Against Commercial Goods Transport

PUNE : The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has warned passenger autorickshaw drivers and other passenger vehicle operators against transporting goods in violation of motor vehicle rules.

The RTO said it has received complaints about goods being transported illegally in passenger autorickshaws and other passenger vehicles in Pune city. Vehicles permitted for passenger transport cannot be used for carrying goods. If a vehicle is found transporting goods in violation of the rules, a fine of Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 may be imposed for the first offence under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Passengers travelling in autorickshaws are permitted to carry their personal luggage. However, transportation of goods other than the passenger’s personal belongings is not permitted. Passenger autorickshaws also cannot be commercially used as goods vehicles.

The RTO has urged all autorickshaw drivers and other passenger vehicle operators in Pune to strictly follow the prescribed rules. Action will be taken under the Motor Vehicles Act and relevant regulations against vehicles found transporting goods without permission, the RTO said.
