PCMC Urges Citizens to Donate Reusable Items at RRR Centres
‘Clean and Green Diwali’: Initiative aims to reduce waste and help the needy through reuse
Pimpri Chinchwad : The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has appealed to citizens to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali by donating unused but usable household items at its Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) centres instead of discarding them as waste.
The civic body has established RRR centres across its eight regional office jurisdictions to promote reuse, minimise waste generation and make essential items available to underprivileged people. The initiative is being implemented through the health department.
Citizens can donate old clothes, books, notebooks, school supplies, toys, utensils, bedsheets, curtains, furniture, footwear, electronic appliances and other reusable household items. These items will be collected and channelled for appropriate reuse, helping reduce the burden on waste management systems while supporting needy families.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Pradeep Thengal said the initiative combines cleanliness, environmental conservation and social responsibility. He urged residents and housing societies to actively participate, particularly during Diwali cleaning, by donating usable items rather than throwing them away.
Residents and housing societies can contact 7030901993 or 9168684670 to arrange the collection of reusable items.
PCMC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi said public participation was essential to building a clean, green and sustainable city. He appealed to citizens to strengthen the culture of reuse and contribute to environmental protection through this initiative.
“Every citizen’s participation is crucial to building a clean, beautiful and green city. Donating usable household items at RRR centres helps reduce waste, conserve the environment and support needy families. I urge citizens and housing societies to make reuse a priority this Diwali and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable Pimpri Chinchwad.”
