Indira University students engage with Barne on civic administration, voting and public issues
Pimpri Chinchwad : Students and faculty members of the School of Liberal Arts at Indira University (Pune) paid a courtesy visit to the public relations office of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne at Thergaon. The interaction, held under the guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Poonam Kawale, focused on local governance, civic administration, public issues and the functioning of elected representatives.
During the interaction, Barne urged the youth to actively participate in the democratic process and highlighted the importance of voting in a democracy. He said every eligible citizen has a responsibility to exercise their right to vote to help elect appropriate leadership.
Barne also spoke about the need for young people to participate actively in political and administrative processes, stating that their involvement is important for the future of the country. The students discussed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process for updating electoral rolls, removing the names of deceased persons and preventing bogus voting. The discussion also covered the difficulties faced by citizens while completing the required documentation and the awareness campaigns being conducted through door-to-door outreach.
Barne explained the role of the elected representatives and the municipal administration in addressing citizens’ day-to-day concerns. He discussed various civic issues, including healthcare, water supply, drainage, sanitation, garbage collection, property tax and different welfare schemes implemented for citizens. The students also gained an understanding of how the elected body and municipal administration function and the importance of local self-government institutions in resolving public grievances.
The visit was organised as part of the students’ academic curriculum and provided them with an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of administrative functioning beyond classroom learning. The interaction helped them understand how local governance affects citizens’ daily lives and the role of public representatives in addressing their concerns.
Barne said he was pleased to interact with the students and guide the younger generation on democracy, administration and civic responsibilities. He also noted that the positive approach shown by the students towards politics and administration was encouraging.
