Wakad News : Seven Held for Stealing Expensive Food Items from Star Bazaar
Pimpri-Chinchwad : The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police investigation team has busted a gang allegedly involved in stealing expensive food items from Star Bazaar outlets in Wakad and other areas.
Seven suspects have been arrested and goods worth ₹7.21 lakh, including the stolen items and an Innova car allegedly used in the offences, have been seized.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Ravikant Jakare, Brijesh Madeshiya, Brijesh Yadav, Sonam Babu Shaikh, Salma Shaikh, Saniya Babumia Shaikh and Ruma Madeshiya.
According to the police, on August 29, 2026, three to four women and three men arrived at Star Bazaar in Wakad in an Innova car. They allegedly stole Govardhan ghee, almonds, cashews and other food products worth around ₹42,100. A case was subsequently registered at the Wakad police station.
The investigation team examined CCTV footage from the store and surrounding areas and conducted technical analysis. The footage showed the Innova car allegedly used in the theft travelling towards Mumbai. Police traced the vehicle and subsequently detained the suspects.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted to stealing cashews, almonds and ghee from Star Bazaar outlets in Wakad, Pimpri and Chikhali, as well as outlets at Kesnand Phata and Wagholi in Pune, police said.
The investigation also revealed that cases had been registered against some of the accused at the Pimpri and Chikhali police stations.
Police suspect that the group may have been involved in similar offences in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra. Further investigation is underway.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey. Wakad police officials are conducting further investigation.
