Follow Traffic Rules, Save Lives : Psi Ravindra Aherrao

Pimpri : Road accidents claim more lives than several serious illnesses, and parents should not allow minors to drive vehicles, said Ravindra Aherrao, Police Sub-Inspector, Chinchwad Traffic Division.

He appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules and cooperate with the police to reduce the pressure on the traffic enforcement machinery.

Aherrao was interacting with citizens during a Lok Samvad programme organised by the District Information Office at Akhil Mandai Mitra Mandal in Chinchwad. Ganesh Mandal president Atul Padwal was present on the occasion.

Aherrao said compliance with traffic regulations prescribed under the Maharashtra State Highway Traffic Police guidelines and the Motor Vehicles Act is essential to ensure smooth and safe road traffic.

He said driving without a valid licence is a punishable offence and attracts a fine of ₹5,000. Violating a traffic signal attracts a fine of ₹500, while repeated violations can lead to a fine of up to ₹1,500 and suspension of the driving licence for three months. A fine of ₹1,000 is imposed for riding without a helmet, he said.

He urged both riders and pillion passengers on two-wheelers to wear helmets. He also stressed the importance of using seat belts while travelling in four-wheelers.

“Do not drive after consuming alcohol or narcotic substances. Follow prescribed speed limits and avoid using mobile phones while driving,” Aherrao said.

He urged citizens to make road safety a priority and cooperate with the police by adhering to traffic regulations.
