Citizens Should Take Lead in Celebrating Eco-Friendly Ganeshotsav : PCMC Commissioner
- Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi urges use of natural decorations, artificial immersion tanks and dedicated Nirmalya collection centres
PIMPRI : Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi has appealed to citizens to celebrate Ganeshotsav in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner while preserving the traditional spirit of the festival.
The civic administration has urged devotees to prefer Shadu clay idols and natural colours and avoid Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols. Citizens have also been asked to immerse idols only in the artificial immersion tanks and water bodies provided by the municipal corporation instead of rivers, lakes or streams.
The PCMC has appealed to residents to deposit Nirmalya separately at designated collection centres and segregate wet, dry and other waste before handing it over to the civic waste collection system.
The administration has also urged Ganesh mandals and households to avoid plastic and thermocol decorations and opt for natural or reusable materials. Citizens have been advised to use LED lighting wherever possible and strictly follow noise pollution regulations.
“Protecting the environment while maintaining the faith and enthusiasm of Ganeshotsav is our collective responsibility. Citizen participation is essential to making Pimpri-Chinchwad a clean, beautiful and sustainable city,” said Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Pradeep Thengal also appealed to citizens to focus on proper waste segregation, Nirmalya collection and the use of artificial immersion facilities during the festival.
