Take Strict Action Against Those Responsible for Workers’ Deaths; Provide Financial Assistance to Families

Pimpri : Labour leaders Kashinath Nakhate, Rajesh Mane and Lala Rathod have demanded strict legal action against those responsible for the recent accidental deaths of workers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, along with immediate financial assistance to the families of the deceased as per government norms.

The labour leaders met Pune Labour Deputy Commissioner Abhay Gite and submitted a memorandum highlighting several recent workplace accidents in which workers lost their lives. They expressed concern over the alleged lack of adequate safety measures and preventive precautions at various workplaces.

During the meeting, they raised the case of Rahul Vitthal Sable, who died after falling from the roof of the ‘H’ Regional Office building of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation while removing the electrical illumination installed for Independence Day celebrations.

They also drew attention to the deaths of Manoj Baburao Shinde and Amol Ashok Shinde, who lost their lives after falling into a manhole and duct of BSNL premises at Nigdi.

The delegation further informed the Labour Department about the death of Ankit Kumar Verma, who reportedly fell from a height while carrying out welding work at Kangaroo Polymers Pvt. Ltd. in Alandi-Dhanore on September 4.

Expressing concern over the increasing number of workplace accidents, the labour leaders said workers’ lives were being put at risk due to inadequate safety equipment and preventive measures at various establishments across Pune district.

“No work, repair or production activity is more important than a worker’s life. Every worker must be provided with a safe workplace, necessary safety equipment, proper training and adequate protective measures,” Nakhate said.

They demanded a detailed investigation into all the incidents, strict legal action against those found responsible, immediate financial assistance to the families of the deceased as per applicable rules, and concrete safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.

Deputy Commissioner Abhay Gite assured the delegation that the concerned departments would be approached for a legal review of the cases and appropriate action would be taken as per the rules.
