Newborn Girl’s Body Found Near Indrayani River in Alandi
- Police suspect body was dumped to conceal birth or death; probe underway
Pune : Panic spread in Alandi after the body of an unidentified baby girl was found wrapped in cloth near the Indrayani river on September 1.
The body was discovered around 9.30 am near the crematorium close to the PCMT bus stop. Police said the infant was estimated to be around one to two months old.
Alandi police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and registered a case against the unidentified parents or guardians. Police suspect the body may have been dumped to conceal information related to the child’s birth or death.
The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem examination. Police are examining CCTV footage and other technical evidence to identify who brought and abandoned the body at the spot.
A case has been registered under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is being conducted by Assistant Police Inspector Jadhav.
