‘Mahasurya’ Brings Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Inspiring Journey Alive in Pimpri-Chinchwad
Pimpri : A grand theatrical production titled ‘Mahasurya’ offered a powerful portrayal of the life and legacy of B. R. Ambedkar, leaving a lasting impact on audiences in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Organised by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation as part of ‘Samajik Samata Saptah’ and ‘Vichar Prabodhan Parv 2026’, the event marked the birth anniversary celebrations of Ambedkar and the bicentenary year of Jyotirao Phule.

Held at H.A. Ground, Pimpri, the mega play featured over 100 artists and depicted key milestones from Ambedkar’s life from his disciplined upbringing and struggle for education to his relentless fight against social injustice. Important historical events such as the Mahad Satyagraha, the Poona Pact, and the founding of Mooknayak were presented with depth and authenticity. The narrative also highlighted his personal life, including the support of Ramabai Ambedkar.
Written and directed by Prof. Sunil Ramteke, the production was elevated by narration in the voice of veteran actor Shreeram Lagoo, along with impressive lighting, sound design, costumes, and visual effects. The audience turnout ran into thousands, reflecting strong public engagement with the message of social equality.
Key highlights of the event included:
- A unique performance titled ‘Tribute on Wheels’, where disabled artists showcased the lives of Phule and Ambedkar through dance and drama.
- A musical folk presentation ‘Shauryagatha Mahamanavanchi’, celebrating the legacy of social reformers through traditional instruments and group performances.
- A thought-provoking play ‘Neeli Topi’ by Andekarwadi Manch, Nanded, focusing on the Ambedkarite movement and values of equality, justice, and fraternity.
The event successfully blended art, history, and social awareness, reinforcing the ideals of inclusivity and inspiring citizens across generations.
