Due to Builder’s Negligence, Ravet, Kiwale & Vikas Nagar Left in Dark
- Careless digging damaged power line, thousands faced two-day power cut
Pimpri : Thousands of residents in Ravet, Vikas Nagar and Kiwale faced major inconvenience after a high-voltage power line supplying electricity from the Chinchwad Extension area was damaged during careless excavation work at Mhaskewasti in Ravet. The incident led to a complete power outage in the area for two consecutive days – Tuesday (March 24) and Wednesday (March 25).
With the summer heat already intensifying, the power cut made life extremely difficult for residents. Fans and coolers stopped working, houses became unbearably hot, and the water supply system also collapsed. Due to the power outage, water pumps could not operate, forcing residents to wait for hours to get drinking water. Women and senior citizens were the worst affected.
Students also suffered significantly as the outage came during the school and competitive exam period. Studying in darkness and heat became difficult, disrupting study schedules and causing stress among students.
Local residents expressed strong anger over the incident, blaming the negligence of the builder and lack of coordination and planning by the administration. Citizens said that if proper permissions, coordination and safety measures had been taken before excavation, thousands of people would not have suffered.
Meanwhile, the power distribution department has started repair work on a war footing, and technical teams are working to restore the electricity supply as soon as possible.
Rajendra Taras, Yuva Sena Chief, Maval Lok Sabha constituency, said he received numerous calls from citizens complaining about the power outage in Ravet, Kiwale and nearby areas. After contacting officials, he was informed that the power supply line had been damaged. He said proper maintenance and precautions should be taken to ensure that citizens do not face such inconvenience.
Kiran Sarode, Additional Executive Engineer of the power distribution department, Nigdi office, said that the high-voltage power line supplying electricity to Ravet, Vikas Nagar and Kiwale was uprooted during excavation work by a builder at Mhaskewasti. As a result, the power supply was disrupted for two days. Repair work is currently underway on a war footing and electricity supply will soon be fully restored. He also said that action against the concerned builder will be considered after reviewing the facts.
