Don’t Spend PCMC Funds on Pune Grand Tour, Prioritise Pothole-Ridden Roads : Sandeep Waghere

PCMC urged to prioritise pothole repairs over January cycling event

Pimpri-Chinchwad : Standing committee member Sandeep Waghere has opposed the proposed use of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) funds for the Pune Grand Tour cycling competition scheduled for January, citing the civic body’s financial constraints and poor road conditions.

In a letter to the municipal commissioner, Waghere urged the administration not to approve funding for the event, arguing that essential civic works should take priority. He pointed out that pothole-ridden roads and traffic congestion continue to trouble residents, while several development projects face fund shortages.

“On one hand, the administration cites a lack of funds for development works and suggests taking loans, while on the other, it plans to spend crores on a cycling event,” Waghere said. He demanded that the state government bear the competition’s expenses and urged local MLAs to secure the necessary funds.

Waghere also called for the proposed funds to be redirected towards road repairs, pothole filling, asphalting and other essential civic amenities, stating that providing safe, pothole-free roads should remain the PCMC’s priority.
