UP Native ‘Fakes’ Domicile Papers to Get PMAY Flat in Bhosari; Arrested
Two others booked for alleged fraud; forged educational and municipal records used to obtain Maharashtra residency certificate
Pimpri-Chinchwad : A 45-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly using forged documents to obtain a Maharashtra domicile certificate and secure a flat under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Bhosari.
The Bhosari MIDC police have registered a case against three people, including the arrested accused, a 39-year-old woman and an agent from Kharalwadi, identified as Irfan Shaikh, for alleged cheating and forgery.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammed Danish Abdul Majid Shaikh, a resident of Sector 12, Bhosari. The case was registered on the complaint of Ashok Shivaji Bhogal, 37.
According to the police, the alleged fraud took place between May 21, 2021, and September 14, 2023, at Vyaghragad Cooperative Housing Society in Bhosari.
Police said Shaikh was born in Uttar Pradesh but allegedly procured forged documents to establish his eligibility for Maharashtra residency. These reportedly included a school leaving certificate claiming that he had completed Class XII at Dr Zakir Hussain Urdu Junior College in Khadki, Pune, and an extract from a municipal school register in Kalamb, Dharashiv district, in the name of his father, Abdul Majid Faseeb.
The complaint alleges that Shaikh took the help of agent Irfan Shaikh to arrange the documents.
Using the allegedly forged records, Shaikh obtained a Maharashtra domicile certificate from the Haveli tehsil office in 2021, police said. He and his wife subsequently used the certificate to apply for benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which provides housing assistance to eligible beneficiaries.
The complaint further alleges that the couple secured flat No. 904 in building B/20 of Vyaghragad Cooperative Housing Society in Bhosari through the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), thereby defrauding the government by misrepresenting their eligibility.
The Bhosari MIDC police have registered a case and initiated further investigation. Police Sub-Inspectors Maner and Misal are investigating the matter. The allegations are yet to be established in court.
