Bike Theft Gang Busted in Bavdhan; Five Motorcycles Recovered
– Stolen bikes allegedly dismantled and spare parts sold to scrap dealers; ₹2.65 lakh property seized
PUNE : The Bavdhan police have busted a gang allegedly involved in stealing motorcycles, dismantling them and selling their spare parts to scrap dealers. Police have recovered five stolen motorcycles and various vehicle spare parts worth around ₹2.65 lakh.
The investigation began after a Yamaha MT-15 motorcycle was allegedly stolen from Rohan Layer Society in Baner between 11.30 am on September 7 and 8 pm on September 11. A case was subsequently registered at the Bavdhan police station.
Following directions from Senior Police Inspector Arvind Pawar and under the guidance of Police Sub-Inspector Sarang Thakare, police personnel Swapnil Sable and Akshay Late began investigating the case.
As part of the investigation, police examined around 90 to 100 CCTV camera recordings and traced the suspected movements of the stolen motorcycle. The investigation revealed that the motorcycle had been taken towards the Ingawale Chowk-Pimple Nilakh area.
Police subsequently searched the area and found a fabrication shop behind Hotel Jagdamba, allegedly operated by Rishikesh Sathe. During the investigation, police found that stolen motorcycles were allegedly being dismantled at the shop and their spare parts sold to scrap dealers.
Police seized five motorcycles and various spare parts of other motorcycles from the premises. The total value of the seized property has been estimated at ₹2.65 lakh.
The police have detained Pawan Mariappa Bhajji, 25, of Aundh, and Rishikesh Shahaji Sathe, 29, of Pimple Nilakh, along with a juvenile in conflict with law. Police said Sathe had previously been booked in a case registered at the Wakad police station. Further investigation is being conducted by Police Head Constable Farooq Mulla.
