PUNE : The Bavdhan police have arrested a 26-year-old man who allegedly stole his friend’s newly purchased Honda Elevate, worth around ₹14 lakh, to recover losses incurred in the stock market. The accused was intercepted and detained in Shirpur, Dhule district, while allegedly taking the vehicle to Rajasthan for sale.

The action was carried out within 12 hours of the theft being reported, police said. The stolen SUV has also been recovered. The case came to light after Someshwardas Gupta, a resident of Bavdhan, approached the Bavdhan police station and reported that his new Honda Elevate had been stolen.

Following the registration of the case, a police team under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Arvind Pawar launched an investigation. Police examined CCTV footage and used confidential information to trace the vehicle and suspect.

According to police, the accused initially drove the stolen vehicle towards Wagholi and subsequently travelled through Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Chalisgaon towards Dhule, allegedly in an attempt to evade the police.

The police team immediately began following the vehicle and eventually intercepted it at Shirpur in Dhule district. The suspect was detained and identified as Rohan Satyanarayan Somani, 26, a resident of Wagholi and originally from Rajasthan.

During questioning, Somani allegedly told police that he had suffered losses in the stock market. He had reportedly borrowed money from his father and others and was under pressure to repay the amount.
