Maid Arrested for Stealing Gold Mangalsutra During Gauri-Ganpati Festivities
- 30.546-gram gold ornament worth ₹2.84 lakh recovered from accused
Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Shirgaon-Parandwadi police have arrested a domestic worker for allegedly stealing a gold mangalsutra along with its pendant that had been placed on an Ekvira Devi idol during the Gauri-Ganpati festival.
Police recovered the 30.546-gram gold mangalsutra and pendant, valued at ₹2,84,847, from the accused, identified as Gajra Satappa Kamble (45), a resident of Akurdi.
A case was registered at the Shirgaon-Parandwadi police station on September 26 after the complainant reported that the gold ornament placed on the deity’s idol at home had gone missing during the festival.
During the investigation, the crime detection team questioned the domestic worker. Police said Kamble admitted to the theft during questioning, following which she was arrested. A court remanded her to police custody until September 30.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of senior police officials, including Senior Police Inspector Devendra Chavan, with assistance from PSI Prakash Parkhe and members of the crime detection team.
