Citizens Urged to Stay Alert Against Cyber Fraud
- Police Conduct Awareness Session Under ‘Loksamvad-2026’ in Lohgaon
PUNE : Citizens were urged to remain vigilant against cyber crimes and online fraud during an awareness programme organised at Sant Nagar Yuva Pratishthan in Sant Nagar, Lohgaon, under the ‘Loksamvad-2026’ initiative being implemented across Maharashtra by the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations.
Police constable Bajirao Veer provided citizens with information about various forms of cyber fraud and measures to prevent them. He cautioned citizens about the misuse of social media, fraud through fake accounts, obscene messages, morphed photographs and different types of financial fraud.
Veer explained that citizens could fall victim to several forms of cyber fraud, including phishing, online shopping fraud, loan app fraud, task fraud, malicious APK files, voice cloning, digital arrest scams, trading fraud and credit card fraud.
Citizens were advised to keep two-step authentication enabled on their online accounts and use strong passwords. They were also urged to avoid using unknown Wi-Fi networks, downloading applications or files from unverified sources and responding to unknown individuals online.
Police officials also advised citizens to verify all relevant information before carrying out any online financial transaction and exercise caution while sharing personal or financial details online.
Citizens who fall victim to cyber fraud should immediately contact the cyber helpline number 1930. They can also register complaints through cybercrime.gov.in or approach the nearest police station, officials said.
Police Sub-Inspector Dinesh Raut, Pravin Gurav, Samadhan Fadtare, Sant Nagar Yuva Pratishthan president Nilesh Pawar, secretary Vikas Makane and several citizens were present during the programme.
