Pune Commuters Alert! Cab, Auto Unions Threaten Agitation Over App-Based Fares
Ola, Uber and Rapido services could face disruption if unions launch protest; RTA to discuss fares on October 14
Pune : Commuters in Pune may face disruptions to cab and autorickshaw services as transport unions have threatened an intense agitation over alleged arbitrary fares charged by app-based cab aggregators and the operation of Rapido bike taxis without the required Regional Transport Office (RTO) permission.
Keshav Kshirsagar, president of the Indian Gig Workers Front and the Baghtoy Rickshawala union, said the unions were considering a protest against Ola, Uber and Rapido over alleged violations of transport regulations.
According to Kshirsagar, the platforms continue to charge fares at their discretion despite the state government’s cab aggregator policy coming into effect in September. He also alleged that Rapido was continuing its bike taxi services without the necessary approval.
The union has raised the issue with the Pune collector, who also heads the Regional Transport Authority (RTA). A meeting scheduled for October 14 is expected to discuss cab fares and bike taxi operations with RTO officials.
“We expect strict action. Otherwise, we will launch an intense protest that could disrupt public transport in the city,” Kshirsagar said.
Commuters advised to stay informed
If the unions go ahead with the agitation, passengers who depend on app-based cabs and autorickshaws could face inconvenience. However, no specific date for the protest or confirmed service shutdown has been announced so far.
Commuters are advised to follow official updates before making travel plans, particularly if they rely on Ola, Uber, Rapido or autorickshaw services for daily travel.
