FASTag Toll Exemption Rules Changed: Check New Validity Rules

– Validity linked to disability percentage; eligible users to get three- or five-year exemption

New Delhi / Pune : Revised rules for FASTag-based toll exemption for eligible persons with disabilities have come into effect from October 2, 2026, reducing the need for repeated annual renewals.

Under the new system, the validity of an exempted FASTag will be linked to the disability percentage mentioned in the applicant’s valid disability certificate.

Those with 70% to 100% disability will be eligible for an exempted FASTag valid for up to five years, while those with more than 40% but less than 70% disability will get validity of up to three years.

Applicants will need a valid government-recognised disability certificate/UDID card along with the required vehicle documents. The vehicle must meet the applicable eligibility conditions for toll exemption.

NHAI’s FASTag framework provides for exempted FASTags for eligible vehicles and categories, with such tags issued through an authorised process.

Once the three- or five-year validity expires, eligible users will have to reapply and undergo the required verification. Misuse of an exempted FASTag or submission of invalid documents can lead to action, including disabling or blacklisting of the tag.
