Pruned Tree Wood to Be Made Free for Cremations

• Abhishek Barne approves proposal in Standing Committee meeting

Pimpri-Chinchwad : Wood generated from tree pruning carried out for development works, road widening and other civic activities will now be put to social use, with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Standing Committee approving a proposal to provide the wood free of cost for cremations at various crematoriums across the city.

The decision was approved at a Standing Committee meeting chaired by Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne, who supported the proposal and directed the civic administration to initiate the necessary process.

The proposal was put forward by Standing Committee member Archana Akshay Karande under the guidance of MLA Mahesh Landge.

Trees are regularly pruned within the municipal limits, generating a substantial quantity of branches and wood. Under the approved proposal, the wood will be collected, segregated and stored properly before being supplied to crematoriums for use during funerals.

Karande said the wood obtained from tree pruning should not be wasted and could instead be used to reduce the financial burden on families during cremation.

The initiative is expected to promote the reuse of wood generated through civic tree-pruning activities while also providing free cremation wood to citizens.

The PCMC Garden Department has been instructed to make arrangements for collecting the wood generated through tree pruning and distributing it to various crematoriums in the city.

The decision has been approved by the Standing Committee under the leadership of Chairman Abhishek Barne, giving the initiative an institutional push towards both responsible disposal and social utilisation of pruned tree wood.
