Private Hospitals Asked to Display Treatment Charges
PCMC’s implementation of Maharashtra government directive under scrutiny
Pimpri-Chinchwad : The Maharashtra Public Health Department issued a government circular on October 16, 2026, directing private hospitals and clinics to prominently display the charges for medical services, treatments and facilities. However, questions are being raised over how effectively the directive will be implemented in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The key concerns are whether the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Health Department is aware of the circular and whether private medical establishments across the city have started displaying their rate cards.
According to the directive, private hospitals must display the charges for available medical services and facilities in both Marathi and English, at locations easily visible to patients. They have also been instructed to provide patients and their relatives with adequate information about treatment costs, medical services and packages.
Will Patients Know Treatment Costs in Advance?
Patients and their relatives often face confusion over various charges included in hospital bills. Clearly displayed rate cards could help them understand the likely expenses before starting treatment and plan their finances accordingly.
The government has directed the concerned authorities to communicate the circular to private hospitals within their jurisdictions and ensure effective implementation.
The directive also provides for periodic reviews of compliance and necessary administrative or legal action against establishments found violating the instructions.
What Will PCMC’s Health Department Do?
With numerous private hospitals and clinics operating in Pimpri-Chinchwad, effective monitoring is crucial. The civic health department’s role in informing medical establishments, inspecting displayed rate cards and taking action against violations remains a key concern.
Citizens are now awaiting clarity on the steps PCMC will take to ensure compliance with the government’s instructions and improve transparency in private healthcare billing.
