Students Take Cleanliness Message to Streets Through Street Play
PCMC initiative at Tathawade Zilla Parishad School promotes waste segregation, public hygiene and reduced plastic use
PIMPRI-CHINCHWAD : Students of Tathawade Zilla Parishad School spread awareness about cleanliness and responsible waste management through a street play organised by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
The initiative aimed to educate students and citizens about waste segregation, maintaining public hygiene and avoiding the use of plastic as part of efforts to build a cleaner city.
The civic body is conducting various innovative awareness activities under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi, Additional Commissioner Kuldeep Jangam and Deputy Commissioner Dr Pradeep Thengal.
During the programme, students used the street play to highlight the importance of separating wet and dry waste, avoiding littering on roads, keeping public places clean and reducing plastic consumption. The performance also emphasised that public participation is as important as the administration’s efforts in maintaining cleanliness.
The initiative focused on developing good hygiene habits among children from an early age and encouraging them to carry the message of cleanliness to their families and neighbourhoods. Students were also sensitised to the importance of following cleanliness practices in their daily lives to keep their surroundings clean.
The programme was conducted with guidance from Ashwini Gaikwad, Regional Officer of the ‘J’ Regional Office; Shantaram Mane, Assistant Health Officer; and Komal Farde, Health Inspector.
The civic body appealed to citizens to segregate household waste into four categories — wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste and special-care waste — and hand it over to the municipal garbage collection vehicle. Citizens were also urged to adopt responsible waste disposal practices and maintain cleanliness in public spaces.
“Creating a clean and beautiful city requires awareness about cleanliness among citizens. Developing good hygiene habits among students from an early age can have a positive impact on their families and society. Everyone should adopt practices such as proper waste segregation, keeping public places clean and avoiding plastic use. Citizens should actively participate in the municipal corporation’s initiatives to build a cleaner city,”
- Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi, Municipal Commissioner, PCMC.
