Navratri Temple Visits: Pune Announces Traffic Curbs at Four Major Shrines

Road closures, one-way changes and diversions from October 11 to 20; devotees advised to plan journeys and parking in advance

PUNE : Devotees visiting prominent temples in Pune during Navratri will have to navigate road closures, restricted vehicle access and altered traffic routes, with the city traffic police announcing special arrangements from October 11 to 20 to manage the festival rush.

The restrictions will affect traffic around Bhavani Mata Temple, Tambdi Jogeshwari Temple, Appa Balwant Chowk and Chatushrungi Temple. While some roads will remain closed to regular traffic, additional diversions may be introduced depending on congestion. Essential service vehicles will be exempt from specified restrictions.

Bhavani Mata Temple: Mahatma Phule Road closed

Mahatma Phule Road, between Ramoshi Gate Chowk and Juna Motor Stand, will remain closed to regular traffic in both directions. Parking will also be prohibited along the stretch.

Motorists approaching from Sant Kabir Chowk through Ramoshi Gate must turn left at A.D. Camp Chowk, proceed via Bharat Cinema and Padamji Chowki Chowk, and then turn right towards Juna Motor Stand. Part of Jadhav Road may be opened for movement against its usual one-way direction.

PMPML buses passing through Ramoshi Gate will be diverted via Seven Loves Chowk, Golibar Maidan Chowk and Swargate Chowk. Devotees can use Nehru Road or other permitted parking areas.

Tambdi Jogeshwari Temple: Entry restrictions

Vehicle access to Tambdi Jogeshwari Road from Ganpati Chowk on Laxmi Road will be restricted. The approach from the Sakal Press side will also be closed to regular traffic, except for essential service vehicles.

Motorists on Laxmi Road should continue towards Sevasadan Chowk, turn onto Bajirao Road and proceed via Appa Balwant Chowk towards Shaniwar Wada.

Parking restrictions may affect areas around Tambdi Jogeshwari, Ashtabhuja Devi and Ashtabhuja Durgadevi temples. Suggested parking options include the riverbed road between Tilak Bridge and Bhide Bridge, designated spaces at Mandai and authorised roadside parking zones.

Appa Balwant Chowk: One-way reversal

Traffic between Appa Balwant Chowk and Budhwar Chowk will move in the direction opposite to the usual arrangement. Vehicles will be permitted from Budhwar Chowk towards Appa Balwant Chowk, but not in the reverse direction. Motorists travelling from Appa Balwant Chowk can use the route via the Gadgil statue and Shivaji Road.

Chatushrungi Temple: Diversions as needed

Traffic near Chatushrungi Temple will be regulated according to congestion on Senapati Bapat Road. If queues build up, vehicles from Patrakar Nagar Chowk may be diverted via Shivaji Housing Chowk, with further diversions possible through Vetalbaba Chowk, Deep Bungalow Chowk or Om Super Market.

Those heading to the Polytechnic ground parking area can approach via Shivaji Housing Chowk, K. Sawant Chowk and Firodia Path from Cosmos Junction; via Suryamukhi Datta Mandir Chowk, Thorat Chowk and Deep Bungalow Chowk from Veer Chaphekar Chowk; or via Sanganna Dhotre Path and Khau Galli from Ganeshkhind Road.

Commuters should follow traffic police instructions, avoid restricted parking areas and check local updates before travelling, as additional diversions may be activated depending on crowd conditions.
