{"id":3932,"date":"2026-11-03T15:51:42","date_gmt":"2026-11-03T10:21:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theleadernews.in\/?p=3932"},"modified":"2026-11-03T15:51:42","modified_gmt":"2026-11-03T10:21:42","slug":"pune-metro-expansion-to-transform-regional-connectivity-pm-modi-inaugurates-hinjewadi-shivajinagar-line-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theleadernews.in\/?p=3932","title":{"rendered":"Pune Metro Expansion to Transform Regional Connectivity; PM Modi Inaugurates Hinjewadi\u2013Shivajinagar Line 3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CM Fadnavis targets major mobility hub status for Pune region by 2030; Phase 2 expansion gets foundation stone<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PUNE :<\/strong> Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the 23.20-km Hinjewadi\u2013Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 and laid the foundation stone for Pune Metro Phase 2 expansion, marking a significant milestone in the city&#8217;s public transport infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Modi said the metro expansion would provide improved connectivity to Pune&#8217;s major IT hub in Hinjewadi and strengthen links between the city&#8217;s older and newly developed areas. He said modern public transport infrastructure would accelerate economic growth, improve productivity and enhance the quality of life of citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Highlighting India&#8217;s metro expansion, Modi said the country&#8217;s operational metro network had grown from 248 km in 2014 to approximately 1,200 km, with services now available in 26 cities. More than one crore passengers travel by metro every day. Maharashtra&#8217;s operational metro network has also expanded to around 200 km, with over 680 km of projects under construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence that Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) would emerge as a major mobility hub by 2030. He said metro services, electric buses, inner and outer ring roads, tunnels and a new airport would create an integrated transport network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said Metro Line 3 would provide significant relief to commuters facing traffic congestion, particularly IT professionals travelling to Hinjewadi. He described the project as a major step towards making Pune a modern and congestion-free city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar highlighted the project&#8217;s women-led operations, stating that around 100 women train pilots and 50 per cent women employees at stations would contribute to its operations. She also highlighted the proposed 31-km Phase 2 expansion covering 28 stations, which will connect several key areas of Pune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol said the new corridor would expand Pune&#8217;s metro network to 55 km and benefit lakhs of commuters. He also highlighted four proposed corridors covering approximately 46 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Built under the public-private partnership model at a cost of Rs 8,313 crore, Metro Line 3 will connect the Hinjewadi IT hub directly with Shivajinagar through 23 elevated stations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CM Fadnavis targets major mobility hub status for Pune region by 2030;
