MLA Cracks Down on Garbage Crisis, Demands Timely Collection and Strict Accountability

Pimpri : Following complaints about irregular garbage collection across several parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap made a surprise visit to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) office and questioned officials over the deteriorating sanitation situation.

The complaints have increased following the incident at the waste management facility in Moshi, which reportedly affected garbage collection and transportation in some parts of the city. Garbage piles accumulating along roadsides and near community bins have caused foul smells and pollution, leaving residents distressed.

Taking serious note of the situation, Jagtap reviewed the city’s garbage management system and sought details from the concerned officials about the problems affecting waste collection, transportation and processing. He expressed concern over the decline in sanitation standards, pointing out that Pimpri-Chinchwad had previously established a strong reputation for cleanliness.

Jagtap directed the civic administration to ensure that garbage is collected on time and that residents do not have to suffer because of lapses in municipal services.

No Excuses, Deliver Results

Emphasising accountability, the MLA said officials must focus on resolving problems instead of citing operational difficulties as excuses. He instructed them to move beyond office-based reviews and conduct regular field inspections to monitor sanitation work and assess the actual situation on the ground.

He also called for better coordination among the departments concerned to ensure regular garbage collection, timely transportation and effective maintenance of cleanliness across all areas.

Jagtap warned that strict action would be taken against officials found negligent in discharging their duties. He stressed that the administration must respond promptly to citizens’ complaints and implement concrete measures to restore cleanliness.

Citizens’ Participation Also Essential

While holding the civic administration responsible for maintaining sanitation, Jagtap said public participation was equally important in keeping the city clean. He appealed to residents to remain vigilant about cleanliness and contribute towards maintaining hygienic surroundings.

The civic body now faces the challenge of addressing complaints about irregular garbage collection, clearing accumulated waste and restoring public confidence in the city’s sanitation system.

“For the past several days, citizens have been raising complaints about garbage collection. Many residents have personally approached me, complaining that garbage is not being collected on time and that waste is piling up on roads. I therefore visited the municipal corporation to obtain information about garbage collection and processing. I have instructed officials to ensure that garbage is collected on time under all circumstances. Restoring Pimpri-Chinchwad’s identity as a clean and beautiful city will require the participation of citizens along with the municipal corporation.”
