The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has initiated the distribution process across its eight administrative zones after years of delay following the 2022 survey.

Kasinath Nakhate, president of the Maharashtra Hawker Kranti Mahasangh and a labour leader, had pursued the issue through sustained representations and a petition before the Supreme Court. The court directed the authorities to expedite the distribution of hawker certificates and identity cards and determine designated hawking zones, paving the way for the civic administration to begin the process.

Survey completed in 2022, certificates delayed

PCMC conducted a survey of street vendors in 2022, but the certificates and identity cards were not issued for several years. Nakhate alleged that the civic administration was taking action against vendors without effectively implementing the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act. He said the seizure of vendors’ goods had affected their livelihoods.

The Maharashtra Hawker Kranti Mahasangh approached the Supreme Court against the alleged arbitrary action, following which a stay was granted on the action concerned, according to Nakhate.

He continued to pursue the pending distribution of certificates, the functioning of the Town Vending Committee and the creation of designated hawking zones. The latest development has brought relief to vendors whose registrations had remained pending despite the survey.

Vendors asked to contact ward offices

Nakhate said the process is now underway, including the required formalities and payment of a fee of Rs 1,400. He urged vendors whose names were included in the 2022 survey to contact the concerned PCMC ward office in the area where they conduct their business.

He said the certificates and identity cards would provide official recognition to registered vendors and help protect their livelihood rights. He also called for the timely completion of the distribution process and the systematic identification of hawking zones in accordance with the law.

Several representatives and members of the Maharashtra Hawker Kranti Mahasangh were present on the occasion, including Kiran Sadekar, Raju Birajdar, Alka Rokade, Salim Dange, Irfan Chaudhary, Balaji Lokhande, Salim Shaikh, Nandu Aher, Razzaq Shaikh, Sunil Bhosale, Sahadev Honmane, Sukhdev Nangare, Iqbal Shaikh, Vishal Ichke, Lakshan Sagar, Jyoti Dhakare, Ashok Pagare, Anita Kumar and Sushma Sagar.

Supreme Court intervention following Kasinath Nakhate’s legal battle brings relief to street vendors PIMPRI-CHINCHWAD: After a four-year wait, street vendors

[33
57,56
post-3588","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pimpri-chinchwad","tag-maharashtra","tag-pcmc
"1536x1536":"https://theleadernews.in/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/pcmc.jpg","2048x2048":"https://theleadernews.in/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/pcmc.jpg
https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/1d5153bc4b578f38328e6ec4367b899f9035bc845d2933bfe4a714a364de8dbd?s=96&d=mm&r=g
Supreme Court intervention following Kasinath Nakhate’s legal battle brings relief to street vendors PIMPRI-CHINCHWAD: After a four-year wait, street vendors
Pimpri Chinchwad
["https://theleadernews.in/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/pcmc.jpg",738,384,false
https://theleadernews.in/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/pcmc-300x156.jpg",300,156,true
https://theleadernews.in/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/pcmc-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/1d5153bc4b578f38328e6ec4367b899f9035bc845d2933bfe4a714a364de8dbd?s=96&d=mm&r=g
Pimpri Chinchwad
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
